Question of the Day: What percent of people have spent money on social events due to FOMO?

Are you missing out on the BOGO? Or is that just your FOMO?

Answer: 63%

Questions:

  • What is FOMO? How would you describe it?
  • Have you ever experienced FOMO? How has it ever impacted your spending behavior?
  • How can you avoid overspending due to social factors like FOMO?

Here are the ready-to-go slides for this Question of the Day that you can use in your classroom.

Behind the numbers (CouponCabin):

"According to our latest survey, 86% of Americans have spent money as a direct result of social pressure. Whether it's overtipping at a group dinner, buying a gift for a coworker, or showing up to a birthday bash you didn't budget for, the social tab adds up fast"

"But sometimes simply cutting back on your budget isn’t enough. 17% of respondents say they've postponed saving for retirement to afford social events, trading future financial security for a night out. Going further, 63% of respondents have gone into debt to participate in a social event, with men 12% more likely to do so than women."
